Shurink Universe Explained: Who Benefits from This Korean HIFU Device?

Shurink Universe HIFU ultrasound lifting treatment for facial contour

Quick answer: Shurink Universe is a Korean high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) device that heats tiny points beneath the skin to tighten tissue and stimulate collagen. It is popular for refining the jawline, softening early jowls and improving firmness with little downtime. Because it is fast and relatively comfortable, it is often used as a maintenance lifting treatment every few months.

What is Shurink Universe?

Shurink Universe is the latest generation of the Shurink (also called Ultraformer in some markets) HIFU platform developed by Classys, a Korean medical device company. Like other HIFU devices, it focuses ultrasound energy into small thermal points at set depths under the skin, while the surface stays intact.

Shurink is one of the most widely used lifting devices in Korean clinics. It is often described as a more accessible alternative to premium ultrasound treatments, because sessions are quicker and usually less costly, which makes repeat treatments practical.

How does HIFU tighten skin?

Focused ultrasound converges at a precise point, heating it to a temperature high enough to cause a small, controlled coagulation zone. The body responds in two ways:

  • Immediate contraction – heated collagen fibres shorten, giving a subtle firming effect.
  • Collagen remodelling – over the following weeks, new collagen is produced as part of the healing response, gradually improving firmness.

Shurink Universe uses interchangeable cartridges that target different depths, commonly around 1.5 mm, 2.0 mm, 3.0 mm and 4.5 mm. The deepest cartridges reach the SMAS, the supportive layer tightened in surgical facelifts, while the shallower ones work on the dermis and fine lines.

What is different about the Universe model?

  • Multiple delivery modes – in addition to conventional line-by-line shots, it offers a multi-pulse mode that spreads energy more evenly and is designed to feel more comfortable.
  • A booster handpiece – a separate non-focused ultrasound mode can be used for skin quality and product penetration.
  • Faster treatment – improved handpieces shorten session time, which suits busy patients and short trips.

Who is a good candidate?

Shurink Universe is typically used for:

  • Mild to moderate laxity along the jawline and cheeks
  • Early jowls and a softening facial contour
  • Small areas of fullness under the chin
  • People who want regular maintenance rather than one large treatment

It is less suitable for significant sagging with excess skin, or for hollowness caused mainly by volume loss. Very thin faces may need lower energy or a different approach, because aggressive deep shots can sometimes make a face look more hollow. A doctor should assess fat distribution and skin thickness before planning depths.

What happens during treatment?

  1. Assessment – the doctor reviews your contour and decides which cartridges, areas and shot counts to use.
  2. Preparation – makeup is removed and numbing cream is often applied.
  3. Treatment – ultrasound gel is applied and the handpiece is moved across the face in planned lines.
  4. Finish – the gel is wiped off; most people go back to normal activities straight away.

A full-face session often takes 20–40 minutes, plus numbing time.

Does it hurt, and what is the downtime?

You may feel brief heat or a deep prickling sensation, strongest over the jawline and bony areas. Many people find Shurink more comfortable than some premium ultrasound treatments, especially in multi-pulse mode. Mild redness, swelling or tenderness usually settles within hours to a few days. Occasional bruising, small welts or temporary numbness can occur and resolve on their own.

When will you see results, and how long do they last?

A slight tightening can appear soon after treatment, with further improvement over four to twelve weeks as collagen remodels. Because the energy per session is usually moderate, results tend to last a few months, and many patients repeat treatment every three to six months as maintenance.

How does it compare with other lifting options?

Compared with Ultherapy Prime, Shurink Universe does not have real-time imaging, but it is faster and usually less costly, which makes it attractive for routine maintenance. Compared with radiofrequency treatments such as Thermage FLX, HIFU works at more defined depths, while RF heats a broader volume. Some people combine HIFU for contour with RF or skin boosters for skin quality.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Is the device a genuine Shurink Universe, and are the cartridges genuine?
  • Which depths and areas are planned, and how many shots does the quote include?
  • How will the plan avoid making a thin face look hollow?
  • Who performs the treatment, and how is comfort managed?
  • What does the final price include?

Frequently asked questions

Is Shurink the same as Ultherapy?

Both use focused ultrasound, but they are different devices from different manufacturers. Ultherapy Prime has real-time imaging; Shurink Universe focuses on speed, comfort and flexible modes.

How often can I have Shurink?

Many clinics suggest every three to six months, depending on the energy used and your goals.

Can Shurink slim the face?

It can tighten tissue and may modestly refine contour, but it is not a fat-removal procedure. For significant fullness, other options may be discussed.
