Sofwave in Daegu: Benefits, Downtime, and Realistic Results

Sofwave synchronous ultrasound treatment for fine lines and skin lifting

Quick answer: Sofwave is an ultrasound skin-tightening treatment that uses seven parallel beams, called SUPERB technology, to heat the mid-dermis at a fixed depth of about 1.5 mm. It is mainly chosen for fine lines, wrinkles and mild laxity on the face and neck. Treatment is fairly quick, downtime is minimal, and results develop over about three months.

What is Sofwave?

Sofwave is made by Sofwave Medical, an Israeli company. In the United States it is FDA-cleared for improving facial lines and wrinkles, lifting the eyebrow and the lax tissue under the chin and on the neck, and for short-term improvement in the appearance of cellulite. Its main difference from other ultrasound devices is how the energy is shaped and delivered.

How does SUPERB ultrasound work?

Instead of focusing energy into individual deep points, Sofwave sends seven synchronous parallel ultrasound beams into the mid-dermis. These create small cylindrical heating zones at around 1.5 mm, where collagen is dense.

  • Fixed dermal depth – targets the layer most involved in fine lines and texture, while avoiding deeper structures.
  • Integrated cooling – the handpiece cools the skin surface during each pulse to protect the epidermis.
  • Collagen response – the controlled heat triggers new collagen and elastin over the following weeks.

Who is a good candidate?

  • Fine lines and wrinkles on the forehead, around the eyes or mouth
  • Mild laxity of the brow, jawline, under the chin or neck
  • Crepey skin texture
  • People who want a quicker session with predictable depth

Because it works at a shallower, fixed depth, Sofwave is less suited to deep structural sagging that involves the SMAS. Significant volume loss also needs other approaches. Because ultrasound does not target pigment, it can be used across many skin tones after assessment.

What happens during treatment?

  1. Consultation – the doctor plans treatment zones and the number of passes.
  2. Preparation – the skin is cleansed and numbing cream is often applied.
  3. Treatment – the handpiece is placed on the skin in a pattern; each pulse is paired with cooling.
  4. Finish – gel is removed and you can usually resume normal activities.

A full face and neck commonly takes 30–45 minutes.

Does it hurt, and what is the downtime?

Most people feel brief heat with each pulse. Many find it more comfortable than deeper focused ultrasound, partly because of the cooling and the shallower depth, though sensitivity varies. Redness and mild swelling typically settle within hours. Temporary tenderness, small red marks or a grid-like pattern can appear and fade within days.

When will you see results, and how long do they last?

Some people notice slightly firmer skin early on, but the main improvement appears around 6 to 12 weeks as collagen forms. Results commonly last around a year, depending on age, sun exposure and skin quality. Maintenance sessions are often suggested yearly.

How does it compare with other options?

Ultherapy Prime reaches deeper layers including the SMAS and uses imaging; it is often preferred for structural lifting. Thermage FLX uses radiofrequency for broad firming and texture. Sofwave sits between them, focusing on the mid-dermis for lines and mild laxity with a predictable depth. Some patients combine Sofwave with deeper lifting or with skin boosters.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Is my main concern fine lines, laxity or volume loss?
  • How many pulses or passes are included, and on which areas?
  • How does Sofwave compare with deeper ultrasound for my face?
  • Who performs the treatment, and how is comfort managed?
  • What does the final quote include?

Frequently asked questions

Is one Sofwave session enough?

Many people have a single session, with results building over three months. Some benefit from a second session.

Is Sofwave the same as HIFU?

Both use ultrasound, but Sofwave uses parallel beams at a fixed dermal depth rather than focused points at multiple depths.

Can I have it before travelling home?

Downtime is low, so it is usually compatible with travel, but ask about sun protection and post-treatment care.
