Thermage FLX in Daegu: How Monopolar RF Firms Skin and Who It Suits

Thermage FLX monopolar radiofrequency skin tightening treatment for loose skin

Quick answer: Thermage FLX is a non-invasive skin-tightening treatment that delivers monopolar radiofrequency (RF) energy through a cooled tip. It heats the deeper dermis and the fibrous network beneath it, which makes existing collagen contract and stimulates new collagen. Most people see firmer, smoother skin develop over two to six months after a single session, with minimal downtime.

What is Thermage FLX?

Thermage FLX is the fourth-generation Thermage system made by Solta Medical. It uses monopolar radiofrequency, a form of electrical energy that turns into heat as it passes through tissue. A vibrating, cooled tip protects the skin surface while the heat builds in the layers below.

In the United States, Thermage is FDA-cleared for the non-invasive treatment of wrinkles and rhytids, including on the upper and lower eyelids, and for the temporary improvement in the appearance of cellulite. In Korea it is one of the best-known premium skin-tightening treatments, and it is often chosen for overall firmness rather than a targeted lift.

How does monopolar radiofrequency tighten skin?

Unlike lasers, RF energy is not absorbed by pigment, so it can be used on a wide range of skin tones. When the tissue is heated to a controlled temperature, two things happen:

  • Immediate contraction – collagen fibres shorten and tighten, which some people notice as a subtle firming on the day.
  • Collagen remodelling – the body responds to the controlled heat by producing new collagen over the following months, which gradually improves firmness and texture.

The FLX model includes AccuREP technology, which measures the skin's electrical properties and adjusts energy delivery pass by pass. The aim is a more consistent treatment across areas with different skin thickness.

Which areas can be treated?

  • Face and jawline – overall firmness, mild jowling and soft contours.
  • Eyes – a dedicated eye tip is used around the upper and lower eyelids for crepey or hooded skin.
  • Neck – early laxity and fine horizontal lines.
  • Body – larger tips are used on areas such as the abdomen, arms or thighs.

Who is a good candidate?

Thermage FLX usually suits adults with mild to moderate laxity, thinning or crepey skin, and fine lines who want gradual, natural-looking improvement without injections or surgery. It is often chosen by people in their 30s to 50s who want to maintain firmness.

It is less suitable when the main problem is heavy sagging with excess skin, or deep hollowness from volume loss. People with implanted electronic devices such as pacemakers, those who are pregnant, and anyone with active skin infection in the area should discuss safety with the doctor first.

What does the shot count mean?

Thermage is priced and planned by the number of pulses ("shots"), commonly 300, 600 or 900 for the face. More shots allow more passes or a larger area, but the number alone does not tell you how good a treatment will be. Ask which areas are covered, how many passes each area receives, which tip will be used, and whether the eye tip is included separately.

What happens during treatment?

  1. Consultation – the doctor assesses laxity and skin quality and agrees the areas and shot count with you.
  2. Preparation – the skin is cleansed, a temporary grid is marked on the face, and a topical numbing cream may be applied.
  3. Treatment – the tip is placed square by square; you feel short bursts of deep heat followed by cooling and vibration.
  4. Finish – the grid is removed and you can usually return to daily life straight away.

A full-face session commonly takes 45–90 minutes depending on the shot count.

Does it hurt, and what is the downtime?

Most people describe brief, intense heat with each pulse, especially over thin or bony areas. The energy level is adjusted to your feedback, so tell the practitioner if it feels too hot. Mild redness and swelling usually settle within hours to a day. Temporary tenderness, small bumps or, rarely, a superficial burn or blister can occur, which is why the treatment should be performed by trained medical staff using genuine tips.

When will you see results, and how long do they last?

A slight tightening may be visible immediately, but the main improvement develops as new collagen forms, typically over two to six months. Results often last around a year or longer depending on age, skin condition and lifestyle. Many patients schedule a maintenance session about once a year.

Thermage FLX compared with other options

Thermage FLX heats a broad, relatively shallow volume and is often chosen for overall firmness, texture and the eye area. Micro-focused ultrasound such as Ultherapy reaches the deeper SMAS layer and is often preferred for structural lifting of the brow, jawline and neck. Some patients combine both in one plan. Skin boosters and fillers address hydration and volume rather than laxity.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Is this a genuine Thermage FLX device, and will I see the new, sealed tip opened?
  • How many shots are included, and on which areas?
  • Is the eye tip included or priced separately?
  • Who performs the treatment, and how is comfort managed?
  • What does the final quote include (numbing, VAT, follow-up)?

Frequently asked questions

Is one Thermage FLX session enough?

It is usually designed as a single session, with results building over several months. A maintenance session may be suggested after about a year.

Can Thermage be used on darker skin?

Because RF energy does not target pigment, Thermage is generally suitable for many skin tones, although individual assessment is still important.

Can I combine Thermage with Botox or skin boosters?

Often, yes. Each addresses a different concern, and the doctor can advise on order and timing.
